Library Policies & Procedures

Hours of Operation & Visitation Policies
The West Jefferson Media Center is open from 7:25-2:30 daily.  Students are welcome to visit the media center to work on class work, read or check out a book, work on the computer, or collaborate with friends.  You must sign in at Mrs. Kearns' desk to visit the media center unless you are visiting with a class.  This helps to hold students accountable and provides a record of student activity and media center usage.

Library Expectations
One of the main goals of the WJ media center is to provide an inviting learning commons atmosphere that encourages collaboration, inquiry, and discovery.  That being said, students are expected to maintain and exhibit good character and behavior while in the library.  We ask that students be respectful of others and of the materials during their visit.  Please keep in mind that food and drink are not allowed in the media center for the safety of our materials.

Student Check-Out Policy
Students are welcome to check out materials as frequently as they would like.  Books are available for two week checkout periods.  After that time, students are welcome to renew their items, so long as no other student has put the item on hold.

Lost or Damaged Books
In an effort to encourage responsibility and ensure that items in the media center are able to be enjoyed by everyone, students will be held accountable for any lost or damaged books/materials.  Replacement cost will vary depending on the cost of the book.  Proceeds from library fines will go toward the purchase of new library materials.  Students with overdue or unpaid, missing items may be limited in their ability to check out new materials.  Mrs. Kearns will distribute overdue and fine notices to homeroom teachers on a periodic basis.  Students can check the status of items checked out with Mrs. Kearns.
